i never do stuff like this but here it goes..
it’s september, that means it’s alopecia awareness month! (and my bday month)... i never talk about alopecia because most people who know me already know why i don’t have hair or at least have some idea. to be completely honest... 98% of the time i forget i’m bald, but there’s always days where i cry and let it out and miss what i never had. sometimes i long to fit it. it’s honestly all i want sometimes. maybe it would change who wants to be friends with me, what guy likes me, what people think of me, people’s first impressions... i don’t know, but what i do know is that this disease is unchangeable and for some unknown reason, the Lord chose me to battle this challenge every day of my life. I’m still trying to figure out what the reason is that God made me the way i am, but i wouldn’t have it any other way. the other day one of my best friends said to me, “oh sorry hannah i forgot you’re bald.” when people say this to me i normally just laugh, but i smiled when she said it, because it made me realize that being bald is not what people who know me see. they see the real me. alopecia is a blessing and probably one of the biggest blessings i’ll ever receive. i’ve gotten free disney tickets, random all access passes, met famous people, gotten free food (hundreds of times), special treatment, and i’ve made some of the best friendships in the world. honestly all this to say, thank you to my best friends and everyone who has watched me grow up and love me for exactly who i am, bald and all. i love all of you with everything i am. and HAPPY ALOPECIA AWARENESS MONTH -hannah We're packing care packages tonight, and this one is for a special 12-year-old boy who loves sharks, Batman and Sour Patch Candy. So we put together a care package just for him! We hope this brightens his day and makes him feel better!!!
Finally!! A few of our hospitals can accept donations again, so we are so excited to ship out some bows and ballcaps tonight. We’ve missed you guys!!
We have another round of headbands ready to ship to our partner hospitals. During this time of Covid-19, we’ve had to shift our focus from bows and ballcaps for the patients to headbands for our health care workers. We are so thankful for the request and idea from one of our hospitals that is helping many others. And we’ve gotten really good at sewing on buttons! Stay safe and healthy everyone!!
So happy to see this post from our friends at Niswonger Children's Hospital. We’re working on more headbands for them this week to keep the health care workers safe!
Sara decided she was ready for a haircut...like the rest of us!! This is the 4th time she’s grown her hair to donate to LocksofLove in honor of her sister and the many other girls and women out there struggling with hair loss. So proud of her decades long commitment to this cause. It’s her unique way of giving back, and we couldn’t be more proud of her.
We’re all trying to do our part during this difficult time. We’ve been in constant communication with our partner hospitals, but, sadly, they can’t accept donations or put out our bows and BALLCAPS during this time due to concerns of virus spread. But one of our hospitals had a special requests. The ears of the health care workers are getting sore and blistered from the constant wearing of masks. So they asked if we could sew buttons on some headbands for them to use. Brilliant! So we went through all of our headbands, and we’ve been sewing on buttons. Our first shipment went out today. We’re happy to do anything we can to help.
Hey y’all!! I hope everyone is doing well during this super uncertain time. I hope you’ve all been quarantining and trying to stay busy! We’ve been staying busy and finally were able to ship out 2 of our care packages today!! We got to fill one for a little girl and another for a little boy and his sister. It’s such a blessing for us to be able to finally give out donations again!! We hope these care packages will bring as much joy to the kids as they brought to us while we packed them. If you’re trying to stay busy and looking for things to do, look for opportunities to help others!! It’s so rewarding. I hope y’all are all staying safe and focusing on family bonding during this time!! AND if you or anyone you know is in need of a care package, let us know and we’d love to help!!
